Super Power Hour is an ongoing collaborative project initially created in the Game Design Workshop class. A four-week-long experiment in collective world-building and complex systems, it begins with each participant conceptualizing a “Character,” and what agency it may have in a world. After all the characters are presented the group builds the world and designs all of its rules and systems needed to accommodate all vectors of agency. The characters are then all revised to build rules that describe their possible actions and vulnerabilities to interface with the world’s systems and all of the other characters. Finally students design a playable deck of cards and miniature game pieces, and scenarios that make up mini games in the world.

Characters

Scenarios

Celestial Exodus

Heeyoun Lee, Mila Luo, Christy Yuen, Demi Saleeb, Dan Chuang

Celestial Exodus is a collaborative survival game set in a space fantasy universe. A hypothetical planet has faced an apocalyptic event, and the characters must embark on a spaceship to search for a habitable planet to build a new civilization. Players win when they collect enough resources and reach the GOAL tile. Players lose when any player dies. Upon revealing an enemy tile, the player’s movement will stop prematurely. Players cannot move onto the enemy tile before they destroy it.

Cult-ivation

Ray Hsiao, Nahla Quazi, Hera Song, Elijah Weller, Ander Xu

The Nightmare Forest is a place of mystery few dare to explore, surrounded by tales of dangerous eldritch creatures and an artifact powerful enough to end the world if bloodstained hands bring it to the Nightmare Altar. You are the leader of a movement that seeks to bring about the apocalypse and thus set out to the Nightmare Forest, but little did you know that others have the same goal.

The Tower

Beau Azuma, Sonny Gagnier, Nick Chung, Makeda Lutufyo

The Tower is a 2-6 player game where players work together to help a scientist cure a zombie virus that has already claimed the lives of millions! Players navigate through 6 floors in a skyscraper, searching for the ingredients to the cure. BUT WAIT! The scientist has been infected. Players must work together to collect and deliver the ingredients to the scientist before the scientist transforms into a zombie, all while fighting zombies along the way.

Pipe Dream

Tyler Varner, August Hattiangadi, Hema Somaya, Magali Ustarroz
