LOCATION
Located at Broad Art Center at the UCLA Game Lab room 3252RE4DY-2-W4RE is a workshop and collaborative artwork in which participants receive a crash course in 3D modeling with Blender and create their own collection of semi-humanoid fashion. The process culminates in a fabulous cyber-runway show in which everyone’s creations strut down a virtual catwalk displayed across a row of networked laptop screens. Participants can also visit the show with in VR, and snap photos to share back in IRL.
Alex Rickett is a game maker and interactive installation artist. He received his MFA in Design Media Arts at UCLA, a B.S. in computer science from the University of Washington in 2010, and a computer graphics focused M.S. from UCLA in 2013. Alex has programmed for small mathematical software companies, military contractors, serious games research labs, and multinational business software companies. He is also an active researcher at the UCLA Game Lab, composer of dissonant electro-pop, and maker of found object sculpture. Synthesizing these interests he seeks to diffuse games into new and unfamiliar contexts thematically, functionally, and aesthetically.
John Brumley is an Assistant Arts Professor of Interactive Media Arts (IMA) at NYU Shanghai. He has previously worked as an instructor at ArtCenter College of Design, Harvestworks NYC, and Design Media Arts at UCLA. He holds a PhD in Empowerment Informatics from the University of Tsukuba, Japan, an MFA in Design Media Arts from UCLA, and a BA in Music Composition from UC Davis. His work focuses on the development of bespoke, experimental toolkits and has been shown in numerous exhibitions domestically, internationally, and virtually.
